Medical Mission in Bonne Fin, HaitiDr. Kalra was on a medical mission in Bonne Fin, Haiti at the Lumiere Hospital in early 2011. Support for those in need is greatly appreciated and can be directed to the Clinton Foundation. Update:We had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Rudolph Richeme, medical director of Lumiere Hospital on his first trip to California. He was eager to learn pain treatments that he could bring back to Haiti. He was appreciative of his education and is eager to bring back knowledge on medication management, nerve blocks, and trigger point injections to help the community of Bon Finne. We enjoyed his kindred spirit and his powerful singing.

I am back from Haiti. It was a very rewarding experience. The Haitians are a very warm and appreciative people who have very little, yet make the most of each day to survive. Below is a note on our trip from the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Rudy Richeme, a brilliant Haitian physician who's tireless work ethic is impressive- he works 24 hours/day, 365 days/year handling all aspects of medicine for the 100 bed hospital, as he is the only physician there. From serving as Emergency Room physician to playing MacGyver and figuring out how to treat patients without oxygen & electricity to becoming Dr. Doule (perhaps the 1st pain clinic in Haiti?) to teaching the nurse anesthetists regional anesthesia techniques, I enjoyed the Haitian experience with its tests of flexibility and creativity. Perhaps you can join me on the next medical mission- guaranteed to be a great adventure. Thanks to Dr. Noah Weiss M.D. (www.weissortho.com) for helping make this possible. Dr. Ruben Kalra Note from Dr. RichemeDearest hospital friends, As we (hospital staff) see February flying by and experimenting a new month; we would ideally thank God for keeping us moving to the right direction as we believe that He is in control and the ruler of everything. Though the cholera outbreak has made its way to Bonne Fin area we were able to fight the disease with our best staff possible and we have screened and treated 35 in january and 50 in february. We had more than 300 patients visiting our facility and knocked down 80 cases compared to january where we did 50. I can't wait to see how much we are going to have this month as this week especially with the visit of more than fifty earthquake victims 1 year follow up; the ortho team leaded by Dr Noah Weiss with an impressive anesthesiologist and pain manager Dr Ruben Kalra named by the patients "Dokte doule (pain relief doc)'' knocked down 45 cases with 5 others made by other disciplines.
